Estuarine Cage Culture

Estuarine Cage Culture

The Department of Fisheries has introduced a progressive scheme under PMMSY that provides financial assistance for the installation of fish cages in inland brackish water rivers. This initiative is designed to encourage aquaculture diversification and optimize the use of natural water resources.

Through the program, several enthusiastic fish farmers and entrepreneurs have successfully established cage culture units. These units serve as demonstration models, showcasing how open water bodies can be effectively harnessed for fish production without the need for extensive land-based infrastructure.

This program represents a significant step toward strengthening Goa’s aquaculture sector. By combining financial support with technical guidance, the Department is not only improving fish production but also laying the foundation for long-term socio-economic growth and sustainable resource management.
