BRACKISHWATER AQUACULTURE
According to the Coastal Aquaculture Act, 2005 and its Amendment 2023 and its Rule 2024 all Brackish water activities such as Prawns farm, Crab culture, Sea bass culture, Mussel Culture etc. have to obtain authorization from the Coastal Aquaculture Authority of India, Government of India, Chennai.
In exercise of the powers conferred by clause(xi) of Rule 5 read with sub-rule (4) of rule 10 of the Coastal Aquaculture Authority Rules, 2005 and in supersession of the Notification No.84/95-FSH-II(PART-I) dated:20/11/2006 published on Official Gazette Series II No.35 dated 30/11/2006, and corrigendum (1):No.84/95-FSH-II(PART-I) issued vide Official Gazette Series II No.6 dated 12/05/2011 and (2)No.84/95-FSH-II(PART-I) issued vide Official Gazette Series II No.22 dated 27/08/2020. And as per the Notification G.S.R. 216 (E) dated 22/03/2022, issued by Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India regarding Coastal Aquaculture Authority (Amendment) Rules 2022, published on The Gazette of India No.2013 dated:22/03/2022, the Government is hereby pleased to constitute The District Level Committee and Sub-Divisional Level Committee (Block wise) as per the composition prescribed with immediate effect

The interested farmer has to apply online on National Single Window System (NSWS) Portal - https://www.nsws.gov.in along with the required documents.
If the Member Convener finds all the documents are in order, the proposed farm will be inspected by the Sub-Divisional Level Committee (Block wise depending on the location of the farm). If the farm is found conforming to the set guidelines, the application will be placed before the District Level Aquaculture Committee (North or South).
The farms with Water Spread area upto 5 ha. will be recommended by Sub-Divisional Level Committee to Coastal Aquaculture Authority directly. Farms above 5 ha. will be recommended by the Sub-Divisional Level Committee, to the District Level Aquaculture Committee (North or South), which then recommends the application to the Coastal Aquaculture Authority of India, Chennai, for final approval and registration.
The authorization received will be valid for a period of five years.
Renewal of license
After a period of five years the license has to be renewed. The prescribed forms are available with the Department which is to be submitted to the Member Convener.
Procedure
Another inspection will be conducted by the Sub-Divisional Level Committee to see that the farm is existing as per the plan in the original licence. If so, it is recommended to the District Level Aquaculture Committee (North or South) and then to Coastal Aquaculture Authority of India, Chennai.
The renewal is obtained for a period of five years.
